about
The first song recorded for karmaland. The full recorded version was complete, then completely lost in the great crash of 2000. The final mix is all that's left.
However, the surviving track paints a haunting picture of two friends growing up in a small town. Both are talented and have big dreams, but a quick retrospective shows one happily pursuing those dreams as an adult, and the other whiling away in the small town.
"It's not a slam against Smalltown Alberta," says Christopher.
"It's just a description of how disappointing it feels to watch someone very close to you wasting their talent because they've been lulled to sleep."
lyrics
this was out town once
this was our home
we dreamed of getting out
now time has left you going nowhere
we knew our future
too big for here
now you’ve dug an open pit
and thrown your future in

this was our town once
so long ago
we wanted to leave this place
now it’s all yours
please don’t come crying
I don’t care anymore
you used to preach the big ideals
now it seems the talk was bigger after all

nahhh...

don’t know if it was planned
but I guess it was deserved
it’s not like you’ve been damned
just forgotten from the world

you should know better
but you’re still here
you can’t change the world anymore
you can’t even change your faith
you can try and fool yourself
and say that you’ve done well
happy glad to be here
maybe it’s better that way
but you cannot hide from me
what you’re trying to hide from you
from the view outside your window
wasted talent’s all I see
